Student Interview: Nomura-san (34 years old, female)

Hello everyone. I'm Mary, your trainer.

This is the second interview with a student, and we had the pleasure of speaking with Nomura-san, who first tried Pilates when the studio opened and has continued to do so enthusiastically ever since, while also focusing on studying anatomy. She is now also active as a Pilates instructor.


I think Nomura's story will give you a lot of courage!

Nomura is in her third year of Pilates with me and is also taking anatomy classes.


Did you have any exercise habits before starting Pilates?


I spent four years at university devoting myself to golf as a member of the golf club. I love to exercise, but after giving birth, it was difficult for me to exercise consistently.



Please tell us when and what inspired you to start Pilates!


It's winter 2022. I've always had physical problems and injuries since I was a student. This is a time when I'm particularly weak both physically and mentally, so I started this because I want to be a healthy mother to my children.



What changes have you noticed since starting Pilates?


First of all, while doing Pilates I am able to really focus on myself, which has freed me from worries and made me feel more positive. Also, I no longer suffer from back pain, which I had been suffering from many times recently, and people around me have started to compliment me on my good posture.



What are your goals in Pilates lessons now? Is there anything you pay attention to in your daily life?


When I practice Pilates on my own, I tend to be impatient, my breathing becomes shallow, and I move like I'm doing a choreography. In the lesson, Ms. Mary checks whether I'm moving in sync with my breathing, so I try to move carefully and with deep breathing.

In my daily life, I now check my posture when I look in the mirror.



Please tell us about any stories that made you feel glad that you were doing Pilates.


As an adult, discovering Pilates, which allows me to escape from the busyness and distractions of everyday life and focus on myself, is a big event for me. The feeling of my body and mind being refreshed after a class is the best!



Do you have any Pilates-related experiences you would like to share?


Through MARY's lessons, I became interested not only in Pilates but also in anatomy, and eventually I even obtained an instructor qualification. I feel that my life has changed dramatically since I discovered Pilates, so from now on I would like to be someone who can convey the appeal of Pilates to others.



What advice would you give to someone wanting to start Pilates?


I want to tell them that it will make your mind and body healthier and make you feel more and more important to yourself!






MARY: I learned from this interview that you were going through a period of physical and mental weakness. You said that your fascination with Pilates was a "treasure" and that it "saved you."

When I checked their bodies at the beginning of each lesson, I found clear signs that they had been working too hard, and that they had hurt themselves without even realizing it.

She has been practicing "taking care of herself" for the sake of her own health, and now she has acquired the knowledge and skills to use this to help others, and is actively working to improve her health.

I am also inspired by his enthusiasm.
